Prince + Marshall embarked on an ambitious project with Netflix to create a comprehensive Design Thinking Curriculum aimed at nurturing the next generation of product designers and user experience leaders. This initiative was designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills required to excel in the fast-paced world of technology and design. The project's scope encompassed the development of a wide array of learning materials, including facilitator guides, participant guides, performance support tools, practice activities, scenario-based learning, online tutorials, and a nudging program, all tailored to meet the specific learning objectives of the curriculum.
The core of the project was the creation of a curriculum that covered over 60 students, focusing on the art and science of design thinking. The curriculum was structured around key concepts such as user experience, design theory, business strategy, and research techniques. Our approach was to provide a balanced educational experience that combined theoretical knowledge with practical application, allowing students to engage with the material through real-world examples and hands-on activities.
A critical component of the curriculum was the development of detailed facilitator and participant guides. These guides were crafted to ensure a cohesive learning journey, providing instructors with the tools to effectively deliver the content and engage students in meaningful discussions. The participant guides were designed to complement the facilitator materials, offering students a structured path to explore the concepts and apply their learning.
To reinforce learning and support the application of design thinking principles, we developed a suite of performance support tools and practice activities. These resources were created to offer students opportunities to apply their knowledge in simulated environments, enhancing their understanding through scenario-based learning and practical exercises. The aim was to foster a deep engagement with the material, enabling students to develop the critical thinking and problem-solving skills essential for success in the field.
The curriculum was further augmented with online tutorials and a nudging program designed to facilitate continuous learning and encourage the application of design thinking concepts in daily tasks. The online tutorials provided an accessible platform for students to revisit key concepts and deepen their understanding, while the nudging program offered timely reminders and prompts to integrate design thinking practices into their workflow.
Throughout the curriculum, Prince + Marshall placed a strong emphasis on facilitating the learning of core concepts and supporting students in connecting theoretical knowledge with real-world applications. Our approach was to create an interactive learning environment that encouraged exploration, creativity, and collaboration, enabling students to gain a comprehensive understanding of design thinking and its relevance to business strategy and user experience design.
The Netflix Pathways Design Thinking Curriculum stands as a testament to Prince + Marshall's expertise in creating engaging and impactful learning experiences. Through this project, we have empowered a new generation of designers and leaders with the tools and knowledge to drive innovation and excellence in the field of user experience and product design. This initiative not only enriches the participants' educational journey but also contributes to the cultivation of a skilled workforce capable of leading the future of design and technology.
